Beautiful trail for Walking, Jogging or Cycling between Collingwood and Meaford
Royal Harbour Resort guests can access the Georgian Trail directly behind the resort. The Georgian Trail runs 34 kilometers along the magnificent southern shore of Georgian Bay between Collingwood and Meaford. The trail features a hard-packed, granular surface ideal for walkers, joggers, cyclists, cross-country skiers and snowshoers. This trail has been around since 1989, and is an example of one of the earlier conversions of a railroad line into a bicycle path. Wild flowers are within an arms reach. White Egrets and Blue Herons nest in wetlands. Beavers, turtles basking in the sun and deer may be seen along the route.
There are regular distance markers along the Trail and shady rest spots with benches. Bridges across Black Ash Creek, Silver Creek, Indian Brook, the Beaver River and Workman Creek. You will enjoy varied landscape from wilderness, rural to urban, and more than 30 convenient access points.
Near Craigleith, note the old train station that once brought vacationers in from the city. Also a good area to go for a dip in the bay on a hot summer ride.
You’ll find many opportunities along the Trail to stop, rest and relax with easy access to sandy beaches and conservation areas.
