Thornbury & Clarksburg

Thornbury is a charming destination located at the mouth of the Beaver River and Georgian Bay.

Being just a ten-minute drive to Blue Mountain, Thornbury fills with many visitors each year, though the town’s population is under 3000, giving it a nice mix of tourist destination and small-town charisma. Come experience Thornbury hospitality and local shops that reflect true Blue Mountain living.

The deep water Thornbury Harbour has more than 250 slips attracting summer boaters.  At the Thornbury Pier, you can see locals and tourists alike, leaping into the clear blue and turquoise water, a Townspeople favourite during the hot summer. When you stay at Royal Harbour Resort, you can enjoy the harbour, the pier and spectacular sunsets just outside your door. Each of our well appointed two bedroom and studio efficiency units overlook the harbour and Georgian Bay.

Royal Harbour Resort is the Thornbury hotel of choice for visitors looking to stay in a waterfront hotel on Georgian Bay.

Clarksburg or “Artsburg” as many call it, has now become the art centre of the region.

Located just south of Thornbury is the quaint village of Clarksburg with shops such as the old fashioned hardware store with its well worn wooden floors and a hand cranked cash register, the honey store that is shaped like a bee hive and Clarksburgers, the funky clothing store. The Beaver River cascades through a series of picturesque rapids from Clendenan Dam through the village and northward to Georgian Bay.

Clarksburg or “Artsburg” as many call it, has now become the art centre of the region with the opening of art galleries and studios. The Marsh Street Centre is a cultural hotspot in The Blue Mountains, hosting a blend of theatre, music, art shows and even opera on occasion. The gallery windows are always changing and give new meaning to the phrase “paint the town.” Clarksburg is also home to some gorgeous Victorian houses, and beautiful nature trails.

This is apple country! A special place where the moderating effects of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment create perfect conditions for growing amazing apples, and baking perfect apple pies. While travelling the quiet country roads near Thornbury and Clarksburg, enjoy the sweet aroma of blossoms in the spring; ripening fruit in the summer; brilliant colours in the fall and crisp sheets of white in the winter. No matter what time you visit, the Apple Pie Trail is always delicious.
